Autumn term has been very busy here at Green Hedges. We have a new plan downstairs, where Sunflowers and Bluebells learn and play together in a free flow environment. The children are able to make independent choices between various areas such as the role play room, the messy room for arts and crafts, our outdoor area and the Bluebell room for Circle Time, construction, Small World and other activities. There have been a lot of visits and visitors linking in with our topic for the term, which is Our Community.

Children have had a visit from the Fire Brigade, complete with fire engine! The Deputy Harbourmaster came to see us, we went to the local library, had a look around the lifeboat station and a talk about water safety and went to see a play at the Stephen Joseph Theatre called SLIME! which was all about making friends and working together. We also have a Harvest food collection being made currently for the Rainbow Centre, to help those in our community who are struggling.

This week, we're learning all about Diwali, which starts next week and is the Hindu Festival of Lights. The children have been making rangoli pictures to exhibit throughout the nursery, and candle holders out of salt dough.

In the next couple of months of term, we'll be doing activities related to Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night, hopefully having a visit from one of the local Buddhist monks, we'll be taking part in Road Safety Week, Children in Need, World Nursery Rhyme Week, learning about the Jewish Festival of Lights, Hannukah, and of course, Christmas, featuring Christmas Jumper Week. All these activities help the children understand that Our Community isn't just about where we live, it's about the wider world as well.

Our Mums and Tots Group started up again in September on a Monday morning term time only, for Mums (or Dads!) and babies. It runs from 10am until 11:30am and we just ask for a small donation of £2 for refreshments. Please come along and meet Carol, our Manager, and have a chat while your little ones play.

If you'd like to look around, please give us a call on 01723 503306 and we'd be delighted to show you what we do.
